Overcome Negativity With These 3 Easy Tips
Three Simple Ways To Overcome Negativity
Allowing a constant stream of negative thoughts to dominate your life will quickly rob you of realizing your true potential in life. It can knock out your drive and get in the way of your creativity. It can quickly take all the joy out of anything you do.
Negative thoughts can lead you down the path to depression. They can convince you that nothing you could do is worth doing because you will just find another way to fail anyway.
While we all know that being positive and maintaining positive thoughts will lead us to positive outcomes in life, it can be a struggle to change the habits of continuously entertaining our negative thoughts.
So how do you change your mindset from a constant stream of negative thoughts into having positive thoughts? Here are three easy ways to start turning your thought processes around and getting rid of those negative thoughts that may be sabotauging your success and happiness in life.
Know When You Are Using Negativity
You need to learn to recognize when you are using negative thoughts to protect yourself. If you are facing challenges or having personal issues, sometime you use negative thoughts as a protective mechanism.
For instance, when you start having troubles in your relationship you may find yourself thinking “This just isn’t going to work out”, or “I’m just tired of him”, instead of facing the issues and putting in the work that it would take to resolve the problem.
By convincing yourself that it won’t work or that other person is the issue, you take the easy way out and allow yourself to avoid conflict and take the easy way out.
If you catch yourself in those situations stop for a moment and refocus your thoughts. You should remind yourself that all successful people faced failure at some point. Some faced failure many times before they finally succeeded.
Before you talk yourself out of action take a step back and remind yourself of the times you were successful. Remind yourself that anything is possible if you make a commitment and put in the time and focus necessary to succeed.
Remember the old saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.
If you find yourself using excuses and negative thoughts to talk yourself out of something try a different approach. Sit down and write a list of all the reasons you want it. Seeing a list of positives about your goal can give you the desire you need to start working on your goal and keep you moving forward.
Next, write out a list of challenges to reaching your goal. Once you have your list of challenges create a plan to deal with them one at a time. Many times this step will make your goal look a whole lot more achievable. It also helps to be able to check off the challenges as you deal with each one. You can see the progress you are making toward your goal.
Use Unambiguous Thinking
Another way to overcome negativity and the negative thoughts that are holding you back is to use unambiguous thinking. Many times negative thoughts are simply stories we tell ourselves about a future that hasn’t occurred yet.
Sit down and write down the worst possible outcome. Then write down the best possible outcome. Finally, write down a pew other middle of the road outcomes that could result.
Now look at all of them and ask yourself if any of them are as bad as you have imagined and convinced yourself are going to occur. By using this technique you can bring the possible outcomes back into focus.
Now you can go back to your first list and review all the reasons you desire an outcome. This can raise your positive thoughts and allow you to see that your worst case scenario is not nearly as bad as you have convinced yourself. It also allows you to use black and white thinking to eliminate the self doubts you have saddled yourself with.
Be Aware Of Your Thoughts
The ability to be aware of your thoughts and immediately recognize when you are letting self doubt and negative thoughts creep in is very helpful.
Many times this is the hardest thing for us to do. It’s easier to see the solutions to the problems of someone else than to be self-aware enough to see the solutions to our own problems.
This is because our egos are involved when we think about a solution to another persons problems. We aren’t invested in our feelings and fears when we tell another person what they need to do. But the ego is quick to bring up every excuse in the book when we look at our own problems.
It’s easy for you to see when your spouse is getting worked up over a minor problem, but that same problem when you are dealing with it can make you lose your mind. It’s the same problem, but we have that pesky ego to deal with that makes it seem like things aren’t fair, or someone is being mean to us.
Learning to realize that the ego is there allows us to realize that things that happen aren’t good or bad. They just happened. When they become good ar bad is when we and our ego put a label on it depending on our point of view.
Once you can recognize those thoughts you have a much better chance of reining them in and replacing them with positive thoughts.
Just the simple exercise of deciding you want to be more positive can produce results. You begin to be able to recognize and deal with negative thoughts before they have a chance to kill your positive thoughts and desires.
When you are able to take a step back from a situation and be an impartial observer you will begin to see a shift that will allow you to replace the negative thoughts arising from your ego, and begin to replace them with positive thoughts.
Once you learn to overcome negativity and recognize when negative thoughts are beginning to creep in, you will find more joy and success in life. You will begin to feel a sense of well being and satisfaction with life. You will end up being happier and more optimistic about life and the possibilities you have every day.
